"So Lean" was produced during the winter/spring of 2022 by Azawka (Alexander Cook) at his humble studio in Montreal, Canada. The EP is self-produced in its entirety and includes many of Azawka's signature stylings: a rhythm-based approach, groove-centric compositions, and electronic sounds lightly layered in a minimalist fashion. "So Lean" contains the first Azawka recordings that highlight Alexander's drumming as a driving force behind the compositions (unlike previous recordings employing drum machines). He is a pro drummer/teacher by trade and for the first time uses his own live drumming in conjunction with his typical electronic style. The EP is a step in a new direction, and a glimpse into a mind consumed by rhythm and groove.
